Industry body calls for incentives to boost demand for industrial park in Amritsar

Synopsis

The Industry department said that various facilities and amenities has thoughtfully designed in the industrial park and these are conveniently located to ensure comfort and easy use by all.

To give boost to industrial development in Amritsar, the administration is offering incentives to industries to move to organised industrial park rather than operating from illegal areas.

According to Simarjot Singh, GM, District Industries Centre, the state government is giving tax holiday, rebate on electricity bills and spending on infrastructure to organise the industrial sectors.

“We are coming up with industrial land parcels and giving attractive offers such as rebate in stamp duty so that industries comes and put up the facility. We are also spending on developing infrastructure to support the development,” Singh said.

The developers, however, feel that apart from giving incentives to new industries, the administration should also offer discounts to those who want to shift from a residential area to an industrial area.

“If someone wants to shift to an industrial area, there should be enough incentives for them to move. This will overall boost the industrial area of the country and it will help us in long run,” said Santosh Agarwal, chief financial officer, Alpha Corp.

Alpha Corp Model Industrial Park, an Industrial Township in 135-acre in Amritsar is allotting land to local industries.

The Industry department said that various facilities and amenities has thoughtfully designed in the industrial park and these are conveniently located to ensure comfort and easy use by all.

The Model Industrial Park includes plots raging in sizes from 250 sq. yards to 5,000 sq. yards, giving entrepreneurs the choice to choose the plot relevant to their enterprise and industry.

“State and central government can join hands to develop Amritsar and Punjab into a hub of industries. While many tourists come to Amritsar, it’s industrial capacity has not been pushed aggressively. The incentives to industries can put the state ahead,” said Karan Gilhotra, Chairman, Punjab Chapter, PHDCCI.
